Part Two - Building The Sanna Hut

Taking inspiration from the Nordic countries’ summer huts and the traditional ‘sheilings’ of the West Highlands, award winning designer Sam Booth has created for us a magical, light, spacious and beautifully crafted building that seems to only just anchor itself to the landscape, as if the next high tide would lift it off somewhere without leaving a trace. This is a space that needed to be open and airy and yet warm and cosy, it needed to offer our guests comfort and convenience to the highest level without compromising a low carbon building approach, most of all it had to be a space people wanted to spend time in, not just retreat to. In all these regards we think Sam and his team have excelled and we have something truly special to offer visitors to this equally special place.

Situated on the western edge of Sanna township, on the upper part of Croft 5, the Hut is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the beaches and is bounded on one side by the Alt Sanna burn, a small river offering opportunities for early morning ‘dips’, catching an elusive brown trout or just the chance to sit quietly as your cares drift away.

Both inside and out, we’ve tried to ensure the Hut has everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. From beautiful French linen sheets, goose down duvets and White Company towels to having both underfloor heating and a wood burning stove, we haven’t compromised in making this the best ‘hut’ you’ll ever visit.

Extending this approach to the outdoor space recognises that your needs change just as much with the time of day as they will with the weather. A large deck area reached by a raised walkway is perfect for breakfast or morning coffee, or just lounging with a book, but a hop off the deck, back onto ‘dry land’ brings you straight onto a rocky promontory with sea and river views, with many nooks and crannies perfect for the fire pit and a dram as the sun sets.
