Walks & Wildlife
Red deer, golden eagles and white-tailed eagles all inhabit or visit Sanna and can often be spotted without leaving the Hut.
However, nothing quite matches the experience of coming across these magnificent creatures whilst out walking in the empty hills that surround the bay. Detailed guides to walks around Sanna can be found in the Journal.
Longer walks, around to the lighthouse or tracing Ardnamurchan’s extinct volcano, can all start and finish at the Hut, with opportunities to spot one of the golden eagles that have an eyrie in the vicinity of Sanna, or the white-tailed eagles that nest in the other side of the peninsula but often spend time on the rocks out by the river estuary. Otters have a holt in the sand dunes between the machair and the sea and are most likely to be spotted in the early morning in the bay and rocks off the main beach. Red deer, on the other hand, are far less scarce and it wouldn’t be unusual to see them strolling past your window in the early evening!
